Canadian Firearms Safety Course

 

The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) is an introductory firearm safety course intended for all new firearms users ages 12 years and up.  

 

Non-restricted firearms topics covered:

  • introduction to firearms

  • muzzleloaders

  • major firearm parts

  • basic firearm safety

  • ammunition

  • operating firearms actions

  • safe handling and carrying

  • firing techniques and procedures

  • care of non-restricted firearms

  • social responsibilities

  • safe storage, display, transportation and handling.

 

This is an eight hour course, plus testing.

 

You must successfully complete this course to apply for a firearm possession and acquisition licence (PAL) in Canada.

Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course

 

The Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) is designed to apply to novice restricted firearm users 18 years and older.  The CFSC is a pre-requisite.

 

Restricted firearms topics covered:

  • introduction to restricted firearms

  • restricted muzzleloaders

  • basic firearm safety

  • ammunition

  • operating handgun actions

  • firing techniques and procedures for handguns

  • fundamentals of shooting with restricted firearms

  • care of restricted firearms

  • social responsibilities

  • safe storage, display, transportation and handling.

 

This is a four - six hour course, plus testing.

 

You must successfully complete this course to apply for a  restricted firearm possession and acquistition licence (RPAL) in Canada. 

 

 

Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education Course

 

The Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education Course (ACHEC) is a Provincial requirement for all first-time hunters in Alberta ages 12 years and up.  

 

Course Outline:

  • Hunting Ethics

  • Role of the Hunter

  • Wildlife Management

  • Wildlife Identification

  • Equipment

  • Firearms

  • Bow Hunting

  • Field Techniques

  • Survival

  • Hypothermia

  • First Aid

  • Vision and Physical Fitness

  • Legal Responsibilities

 

This is a 20 hour course, plus testing.  Only available for groups of 20 or more. 

 

You must successfully complete this course to apply for a Wildlife Identification Number (WIN) Card for hunting in Alberta.
